  1. I like this picture. Very stark contrast between the prayer of the monk and the destruction all around him.

    I wonder what is the content of the monk's prayer? Is he making an appeal to a supernatural power? Is this a personal act, or a tool to remind him of his own impermanence? Maybe it is a public display put on for the benefit of others - to bring them solace and comfort in the face of great tragedy.

    It is in contexts like these that my Atheism seems to fall flat.
